Going Green With Air Conditioning

11 Dec

Going green seems to be an ongoing trend that is both beneficial to ones pocket book and to the environment. A great place to start is by making sure that ones home is tightly sealed so that no hot air can come in. One can usually do that by checking all of the windows and doors to make sure that no air can come in or get out. To fix this problem one can purchase weather stripping and caulking from the hardware store and one can apply it to the perimeter of both the windows and the door.

Some things that most people don’t usually think of in terms of keeping their homes cool is to plant shade trees around ones home, this is also a good idea because trees and plants are good for the environment. If one is going to repaint ones home or to get a new roof, one might also want to consider choosing lighter colors so that the home will not attract as much heat. Using thick curtains is also a good way of keeping the heat and sun out during the summer. Purchasing ceiling fans for the most commonly used rooms is also a good idea because they help circulate the air and they help one feel cooler when it is hot. There are also many different sizes and styles available nowadays so it will be easy to find something that will go with ones décor.

Another way of going green with air conditioning is to go without air conditioning all together although if one has small children or an elderly individual living with one at home then it might not be a good route to go because they can get dehydrated in extreme heat. If one has a cooling system or is considering purchasing a new air conditioning Fresno system then one should make sure that it is an energy efficient one, although they are usually more expensive they are definitely worth the money in the long run.

There are a lot of things that one can do that are environmentally friendly and still keep one cool.  Another thing to remember is to turn on ones appliances such as the dishwasher, oven, washer and dryer on early in the morning or later in the evening.  Instead of using the dryer, if one has room once can string a rope outside and dry ones clothes using the sun. That would definitely save some money, help the environment, and would keep the home cooler. Raising the temperature while one is not home during the summer months is a great way to save energy, and one could even turn off the AC in the evenings and just open the windows because there weather cools off drastically by then.
